Intense experiences, especially negative ones, shape our sense of self more than any other experience and quickly become part of our body sensations and the intrinsic story of who we think we are.
Every experience we encounter creates a sensation in our body. Over time if these sensations are left unreleased or un-dealt with they become blocked in our body and stay in the original emotion we experienced at the time.
Therefore, if we have ever felt angry, sad, rejected or misused then all these feelings if they have never been released are still alive somewhere within your body.
In addition to all these stored sensations, it has been proven that it only takes one negative experience to override a thousand positive experiences. And for every positive experience we encounter it takes at least 10-15 seconds of being in that experience for us to register it in our body.
It could be said therefore that if “we are what we remember” and if “what we remember most” is the negative aspects of our experiences then is it any wonder we have a difficult time feeling positive about life?
How Can Sensorium Therapy Help Release Your Negative Emotions?
Sensorium Therapy, unlike other therapies works directly with the sensory memories that are stored within your body – in fact the word sensorium actually means “The seat of consciousness” the place in your brain where you make sense of the world around you from your physical senses.
Therefore when we work with your senses like we do with Sensorium Therapy we are directly working with the place in your brain that helps you define who you really are.
And because our sensorium is with us every second of our life and is the gateway that allows information to flow in our mind, there is never a situation where Sensorium Therapy could not be of help to us in creating new positive experiences and releasing old negative ones.
Touching the Sensorium
Bringing your body into therapy is by far one of the most beneficial and powerful things we could ever do, as it allows you to “be in the present moment” of your felt sensations so that you can connect with all the threads and strands of your life – and by working with whatever threads presents themselves in the moment and allowing them too emerge – you embark on a true journey of self-discovery.
And what may start out as a sensate experience, memories being touched, tensions releasing, is actually the start of a whole new way of knowing yourself and of recognising the deep knowledge that is held within the inner body of your awareness.
Sensorium Therapy takes you beyond your usual sense of self by helping you let go of your physical and emotional tensions so that your real essence can be revealed.
